Title:Food Safety for Families
Producer:Texas Woman's University
Description:This resource packet (On CD-ROM) is for helping nutrition professionals and dietitians in counseling sessions with WIC participants. Since WIC clients are responsible for preparing and serving food to families, improving their food safety knowledge and practices is likely to improve the health and well being of the entire family. The packet contains: four safe food handling practices (clean, separate, cook, chill); safe infant feeding (breast milk, formula, baby food); online information on common food borne illnesses and food safety guidelines for educators; food safety lesson plans with supporting materials for educators; food safety games, activities, and handouts for clients. The video focuses on food preparation, service, and storage practices for families with young children. In addition to clean, separate, cook, and chill, special sections cover food safety in relation to breast milk, infant formula, and baby food.
